NATO health advice

VALE patients visiting Cardiff hospital sites should allow extra time for journeys - say the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board.

Pockets of disruption are anticipated in the capital during particular pinch points due to events linked to the NATO Summit in Newport this week .

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board has put plans in place to minimise the impact on local services and aims to maintain as normal a service as possible, but is advising people to allow plenty of time to get to hospital sites for appointments in case of any delays on the roads or changes to public transport.

UHB director of planning, Abigail Harris said there had been extensive multi-agency planning to make sure services were prepared for any increased demand during the week.

She said: “We are planning to provide as normal a service as possible but would advise those coming to our sites, particularly on Thursday or Friday, to allow extra travelling time and check the latest travel news.”

The health board said it was taking all measures to provide as much of a normal service as possible.

UHW essential services such as urgent cancers, outpatient diagnostics and elective services will continue as normal.

The Minor Injuries Unit at Barry Hospital is temporarily closed until Monday, September 8 to help provide emergency medicine staff for a triage and treat service in the city centre to support police and ambulance staff.

Services at University Hospital Llandough will continue as normal.

Patients will be informed directly of any changes affecting other sites in Cardiff.
