AN ANNUAL charity event to help local worthy causes saw more than £1500 raised and new world egg throwing champions crowned.

Teams competing in the Richard Buckley Memorial 'It's a Knockout' cup at Cogan Field on August 24 pitted The Village People, The Pirates of the Caribbean and the Doctors and Nurses battling for the trophy.

While the less energetic bought raffle tickets, made donations and enjoyed refreshments to take the total raised on the day to £1505.53.

But there was disappointment on the day for Danny and Lewis Humphries who had to graciously surrender their egg throw and catch world title to new kids on the block Heath Pearce and 10-year-old Owen Buckley.

The Cogan Chiefs triumphed in the full contact volleyball, but were assisted in their victory by the fact that the doctors and nurses spent more time treating casualties and some dubious refereeing from Paca.

The football pool challenge, boxing and running up a hill attached to a long elastic band also tested the competitors to their limits.

Fire station commander, Ian Buckley said the weather had held off, which was the thing he found most difficult to arrange, and the money raised from this highly fraught fun event would be added to other previously raised sums meaning the Firefighters charity, Erw'r Delyn and Pancreatic Cancer Research would each receive £1025.

He thanked Asda, Tesco, The Top House, Ryan's outdoor catering and Ray O'Deals coconuts, Baz for providing the portable toilets, the Cogan Chief and the hundreds of people who turned up to support the event.
