WORK to the swimming pool at Penarth Leisure Centre has seen the majority completed, following a fire earlier this year.
The large scaffolding platform that was required to give access to the pool hall ceiling is being dismantled and work has commenced on replacing the grouting in the actual swimming pool. The Vale Council had hoped a deep cleaning would only be required but this has not proved possible.
The final stages of work are likely to take a further four weeks with the pool likely to reopen shortly afterward.
The exact re-opening date will be available on the Council’s website as soon as it is known.
Cllr Gwyn John, Cabinet Member for Leisure Services, said: “I am disappointed that we haven’t been able to open the pool sooner, but I’m sure customers appreciate that it is extremely important that the pool is fully repaired and safe to use.”
