CERDDORFA Dinas Powys Orchestra is keen to recruit more string players to help them develop their orchestral capabilities and repertoire.

They are a non-auditioned, community orchestra of all ages, providing a focus for local musicians throughout Cardiff and the Vale, to enjoy and develop their talents.

As an orchestra, they have been playing and enjoying their music making for over 30 years. Their musical director, Antony Tarlton, took over the orchestra in 1992 following the retirement of their founder, Mrs Barbara Parrot.

He is an inspirational music teacher as well as being a member of the Orchestra of Welsh National Opera and under his professional guidance and expert eye they have gone from strength to strength.

Their concert in March was particularly well received. Internationally acclaimed concert pianist Tomáš Klement gave an exceptional performance of Beethoven’s 3rd Piano Concerto and the orchestra followed with Beethoven’s Coriolan Overture and Schubert’s 3rd Symphony.

Rehearsals have already started for their Winter Concert in early December. They meet on Sunday afternoons, from 3 till 5.30pm, at the Lee Hall, Britway Road, Dinas Powys, between September and Easter and next year they are hoping to take part in the Dinas Powys Music Festival in May.

They are a friendly and enthusiastic orchestra of semi and retired professionals, students and dedicated amateur musicians and they welcome new members particularly string players.

If you play, or used to play and would like to take it up again, please consider joining them. Take a look at their website www.cdpo.org.uk or ring 02920706288 and do get in touch. They are looking forward to hearing from you.
