BELLE Vue Park celebrated its centenary with a full day of events including the burying of a time capsule.

As well as the time capsule, which was officially placed in the ground by Penarth Mayor Martin Turner, there were historically themed activities for children such as games from the past, seed planting and Edwardian dress-up as well as traditional food and treats.

Displays of Belle Vue Park through the century were particularly popular with the adults, and the historic re-enactments by Barry At War, as well as music and dining in the evening sunshine, were enjoyed by all.

Friends of Belle Vue Park, who organised and hosted the event, dressed in Victorian and Edwardian costumes to add to the character of the day.

“It was a very memorable day,” said Chairman of Friends of Belle Vue, Martin Gossage.

“Belle Vue Park has seen dramatic changes in its use over the past 100 years and it was a privilege to be able to help celebrate such an historic milestone.

"We would like to say thanks to Big Lottery for supporting the event, and to so many people who turned up on the day to enjoy the celebrations.

"Great fun was had by all.”
