AFTER impressing the Britain's Got Talent judges and a whirlwind few months of performances and planning on recording her first album, Penarth's teen singing sensation Jodi Bird has been raising money for charity with a special anniversary concert.

Ysgol Bro Morgannwg pupil Jodi was asked to perform at St Mary's Church in Barry on Friday, September 26, to raise money for the Royal Air Forces Association (RAFA).

Jodi Bird, 16, a soloist, pianist and harpist, and Llinos Jones, 14, a Soloist and Flautist, combined their talents for this special evening to raise funds for the welfare work of RAFA.

Llinos opened with three pieces on the flute, including ‘Smoke Gets in Your Eyes and ‘Polanze’, before singing in both Welsh and English a Welsh Folk song and ‘I Dreamed a Dream’.

Jodi continued the first session with three pieces of music on the harp, which included ‘Swing Time’ and ‘Mountain Stream’ before accompanying herself on the harp whilst singing four popular songs including ‘Field’s of Gold’ in Welsh and Bill Withers ‘Ain’t No Sunshine when She’s Gone’. To conclude the first half Jodi and Llinos performed a duet in Welsh ‘Suo Gan’ with harp accompaniment.

The audience was very appreciative of the first half and looked forward to the second session which was not to disappoint. This session was based around musicals with both Llinos and Jodi singing songs from A Great Big World, Sondheim Musical Follies, Les Miserables, Frozen, Phantom of the Opera and others.

The appreciative audience continued to be held spellbound by the incredible harmonies they were witnessing and the final act did not disappoint when Jodi and llinos combined to sing Jodi’s own arrangement of ‘Somewhere Over The Rainbow’.

Ac spokesman from Barry RAFA Branch said: "We wish to thank these two young people for performing an exceptional programme with such maturity. The Branch also wishes to thank the wonderful supportive audience, its guests Vale Mayor Cllr Howard Hamilton, Town Mayor Cllr Jeff Evans, and Jane Hutt AM for their continuing support and Fthr Ben Andrews for allowing the branch to use St Mary’s Church.

"Through the generosity of the audience, the raffle and a silent auction for a ‘Red Arrows’ embroidered tapestry more than £300 was raised.
