A PENARTH bowler who has been crowned national singles champion is appealing for sponsorship so she can take part in a Champion of Champions event in Australia.

Emma Woodcock, 37, won the blue riband competition at Llandrindod Wells Bowling Club during the Welsh Women’s Bowling Association’s finals weekend.

Emma, who works as a financial auditor at the Wales Audit Office, id so in fine style beating her fellow Welsh and Glamorgan team-mate Carol Difford, of Gilfach Bargoed, the event’s 2009 winner, 21-19 in a thrilling final.

Now, not only will Emma’s name be engraved on one of Wales’ most sought-after trophies, but she qualifies for the trip of a lifetime to Australia to play in the prestigious World Champion of Champions competition next year.

It’s a well-deserved honour for Emma, a member of Cardiff Bowling Club and Sully Indoor Bowling Club, for whom bowls has been her main hobby since she started playing in 1987.

An established member of both the Welsh indoor and outdoor teams, Emma has an impressive bowls CV to her name having chalked up many successes in competitions at club, county and Welsh level.

Looking to 2015, Emma will represent Wales at both the British Isles Championships in Leamington Spa in June and in November at the Champion of Champions event at Helensvale Bowling Club one of Australia’s premier clubs located on the Gold Coast.

Travelling Down Under and playing against other national singles winners will be the pinnacle of Emma’s bowls career so far.

She will have the support of her family, including husband Matthew and mother and father-in-law Linda and Arty, all of whom are well-known in the local bowling fraternity, but she is also hoping that the Penarth community will get behind her by pledging sponsorship to help with the overall cost of the trip.

Emma is appealing to any local business or community group who would be able to assist her financially to contact her via e-mail at sponsorabowler@yahoo.co.uk.
