TWO candidates will be going head to head to as voting begins to become the first Youth Mayor of the Vale of Glamorgan.

Voting takes place between Monday, October 13, and Friday, October 17, with the winner anounced on Monday, October 20.

Stanwell School's 17-year-old Tom Chandler and St. Richard Gwyn's 15-year-old Emily Peters are the two candidates hoping to become the first Youth Mayor.

Both have filmed their manifestos, which will be played to young people aged 11 to 25 during Local Democracy Week.

The Vale of Glamorgan Youth Service has arranged a series of elections to take place in a number of schools, youth clubs and youth organisations across the Vale. All details can be found on www.swoosh.me.uk.

Cllr Chris Elmore, Cabinet Member for Children's Services, said: “It's fantastic that the Local Democracy Week campaign this year will focus on the election of the Youth Mayor for the Vale of Glamorgan. This is the climax to over two years hard work by young people, the Youth Service and the Vale Youth Forum in developing a plan to ensure young people have a real voice and say on matters which not only affect them but on services across the Vale of Glamorgan.”

The Youth Mayor will be announced at the Vale Youth Forum meeting on Monday, October 20, at the Civic Offices in Barry.
