BACKSTAGE members are urgently needed for wardrobe, ‘props’ and scenery by the Penarth Operatic & Dramatic Society (PODS)..

PODS is a very busy company which is desperately in need of a wardrobe mistress/master.

She or he would be responsible for coordinating the costumes for the Society’s four annual productions. The Society has a costume store of its own, but costumes are also hired from costumiers, provided by cast members, bought, or possibly made. If anyone is looking for a hobby, has the flair and creativity to know what would look good on stage, is organised, can use a needle and thread, and perhaps has the talent to even make costumes – then PODS needs you!

PODS is also in need of a couple of ‘props’ people, one especially for the drama section, and one for the musical section. Again, flair and artistry is required, together with an organised mind, to list and obtain the necessary objects and furniture required to dress the stage for a production. You will need to be at most rehearsals, in order that the cast can rehearse with props, and so that you can become familiar with timings and changes in the action on stage.

Although the Society was very pleased to have had one response for a previous SOS for a scenery maker, they could still do with another person to help with scenery, as four productions a year require a lot of cover. If you feel you have an artistic bent and the stamina to move and make scenery then PODS would be delighted to see you.

All of these three jobs are backstage jobs, but are very important, as without them a production could not go on. Good co-ordination with the director will also be required for each of these jobs, as the directors will have their own vision for a production, and therefore their needs and requirements will need discussion, but you will have a chance to express your own ideas.

If you are looking for a different type of hobby with friendly people, then amateur theatre and the PODS is certainly that!

Please contact PODS Chairman, Mary Gardner, if you think you will be able to help with any of these jobs, or have any questions you would like to ask. Tel. no: 029 20712260, or
