A SPECIAL concert held to mark the bicentenary of the birth of the architect that designed St Augustine's Church has raised hundreds of pounds.
A large audience enjoyed a memorable concert given by the St Augustine’s Singers, directed by Robert Court, with world-renowned concert organist, Thomas Trotter, on September 28.
The concert was held to mark the bicentenary of the birth of William Butterfield, the Gothic Revival architect who designed St Augustine’s Church.
Music written by contemporaries of Butterfield thrilled those present, and few will forget the stunning performances of Hubert Parry’s ‘I was Glad’ and ‘Blest Pair of Sirens’. Some people had come specifically to hear Stanford’s ‘The Bluebird’ and there was general delight to have Rebecca Donkin back in St Augustine’s, singing ‘Hear my Prayer’ by Mendelsohn.
The concert was organised jointly by Cardiff Organ Events and the Friends of St Augustine’s Church. A total of £300 was raised to help with the upkeep of the church.
