SPEED warning signs are set to be installed on the main road linking Dinas Powys to Barry.

The highway safety improvement scheme is set to start on Thursday, October 30, along a road that saw a pedestrian fatality over a year ago.

The work on Cardiff Road has been welcomed by local Plaid Cymru Councillors as a contribution to making the main Dinas Powys to Barry road less dangerous.

There may be an element of traffic disruption along the main road whilst safety signs and traffic markings are installed this week.

Councillors Chris Franks, Val Hartrey and Keith Hatton have been campaigning for some time to see improvements along the A4055 that see up to 20,000 vehicles a day travel along the road.

Councillor Franks said: “We have met with officers a number of times to express concerns about the state of the road. Although this is a good start this work has to be carefully monitored to ensure that it is effective.

"The scheme comprises installation of new warning signs along the route incorporating gateway improvements on entry to the 30mph speed limit. There will be no physical changes to the road but the signs will reinforce the need to reduce speed and drive responsibly.

"The construction phase of the above works is programmed to start on site on Thursday, October 30.

"The Council warns that during the construction a certain amount of traffic disruption may occur along Cardiff Road in the immediate vicinity of the works.”
