LABOUR Vale Council leader, Neil Moore this week responded to Barry Plaid councillor warnings that regulatory services should not be put under threat by cuts.

Cllr Neil Moore, in answer to comments made by Butrills councillor Ian Johnson and Baruc councillor, Nic Hodges said in the light of the unprecedented financial pressures facing local government in Wales all councils are having to find new ways to deliver services.

He said: “The new regional public protection service will enable all three authorities to continue to deliver trading standards, environmental health and licencing services to their residents at a considerably lower cost.

“A recent report by the Wales Audit Office stated that environmental health services have now reached a “tipping point” and that failing to future proof services would represent a risk to people’s health and wellbeing. Collaborating with others to reduce cost and improve quality was highlighted within this high profile report as a key recommendation for the future. I am proud that the Vale of Glamorgan Council is, in collaboration with Bridgend and Cardiff, leading the way within Wales by safeguarding the future of key services in this way.”
