STANWELL School has had a busy couple of weeks with plenty going on.

The school are trying to raise money for a new mini bus and the PTA are hosting another Quiz Night on Friday, January 30 at 7pm. Tickets cost £7 each and are available from the school reception, the price includes supper. Teams are a maximum of six people.

Local charity, the Penarth and District Lesotho Trust is launching a new initiative to make Lego available to children in Lesotho, Africa. The school is appealing to pupils and parents to donate any unwanted Lego to the charity.

Boxes for donations are in the Key Stage Three and Four Year Tutors’ offices. All blocks donated must be separate and Duplo blocks are accepted and no items which require batteries to be donated.

The closing date for donations is the end of the spring term and the charity will keep the school up-to-date on the progress of the project.

Stanwell pupil Mia Smith, Year Seven, was the overall winner of the Cardiff and Vale Race Equality calendar and poster competition. Mia and her family attended the presentation ceremony on December 17 where the 2015 calendar was unveiled and the winners were given their prizes.

Miss Owen attended the event to support Mia and to receive a race equality award on behalf of the school for the work Stanwell does in promoting equality.

Stanwell School have introduced a virtual library so students can access eBooks via Moodle.

The virtual library provides students with the opportunity to read online or download material which can be borrowed for a maximum of five days.

The school will be introducing more titles in the future.

The school is proud to announce that six of their current Year 13 students have been accepted to the prestigious universities of Oxford and Cambridge.

Nils Deeg has won a place at Oxford to study Law, Rebecca Te Water Naude has been accepted for Medicine and Leo Tucker has gained a place to study Engineering.

Cambridge applicants include Balaji Krishna who won a place to study Mathematics, Jack Davies who will be studying Natural Sciences and Elis Van Dyck who will be studying Economics.

Stanwell congratulates these exceptional students.
