THE Vale of Glamorgan Council’s waste and recycling teams have had a busy time collecting Christmas trees from across the Vale this winter.

And now they’ve been collected, the trees have been taken to Llwynhelig Farm, Cowbridge where along with garden and food waste, they are being turned into compost.

Cabinet Member for Environment and Visible Services, Councillor Rob Curtis, visited the farm to see the work done by the Cowbridge Compost team, who have been composting organic wastes for over 15 years.

Cllr Curtis said: “It’s fantastic to see so many residents use our Christmas tree collection service and making vital contribution to our environment, and the team here are doing a great job recycling the waste and giving something back.

"Even making a small gesture like recycling your Christmas tree can have a positive effect.”

Michelle Fitzpatrick, Recycling Officer at the Vale of Glamorgan Council, said: “We’re really pleased with the response from Vale residents, and we’d like to encourage even more to make their New Year’s resolution to be greener than ever before.”

The Council also announced in December that Cowbridge Compost will deliver a supply of compost every month to the Court Road Depot in Barry for collection, alongside the existing free wood chipping collection.

Residents will be able to collect compost for free between the hours of 10am and 2pm on the last Sunday of each month.
