AHEAD of the 50th anniversary of the Summer Festival, Penarth Town Council is encouraging those who have supported the festival over the last 49 years to share their favourite photos.

This year’s festival is set to take place from the July 2 until July 12, with Carnival day on Saturday, July 11.

A town council spokesman said: "As we reach the important milestone of the 50th anniversary, it seems the perfect time to reflect on the festival’s history. Many people in Penarth and throughout the Vale of Glamorgan share fond memories of the festival and over the years many of us will have accumulated photographs of various events throughout the 10 day fiesta.

"We would like to see and share these images as a way of documenting how the event has evolved over the years. Each year a lot of work goes into planning an event for Penarth to enjoy and we can’t wait to see your favourite moments.

"If you do have images you wish to share, please email digital copies to enquiries@penarthtowncouncil.gov.uk or if you only have hard copies, please feel free to bring them to West House where staff can make copies."

The town council would also like to get in contact with Miss Kay Olsen, who was the first winner of Miss Penarth Holiday Week, in time for the 50th anniversary celebrations.
