YOUNG people from the Challenge Wales Youth Panel attended the launch of the Wales We Want report in Cardiff before taking part in a workshop attended by Michael Sheen.

Around 7,000 people in Wales had been involved in a pilot National Conversation, during 2014, which asked people what sort of Wales they wanted for the future. On Monday, March 2, the report of the findings was launched.

Following the launch of the report the Challenge Wales Youth Panel took part in a “Future Leaders” workshop with Michael Sheen, the Commissioner for Sustainable Futures, Peter Davies as well as other young people from around Wales. The session was to look at a “Future Leaders” programme to support young people to be leaders of change in their communities.

During the session the Youth Panel talked about how Challenge Wales uses sail training to develop lifeskills and much of what was being discussed in the context of The Wales We Want and Future Leaders workshop resonated with the youth work Challenge Wales delivers; aiming to develop young people of today to participate positively in society tomorrow.

Trustee Vicky Williams, who accompanied the Youth Panel, said “It was great to be part of this landmark event and a wonderful opportunity for young people to share ideas."

Challenge Wales, Wales’ Tall Ship, based in Penarth offers life-changing voyages and helps develop essential life skills to improve employment prospects and is looking for more young people aged 15 – 24 years to be part of its Youth Panel who will help ensure young people’s voices remain central to the organisation.
