COUNCILLOR Rosemary Cook is set to be the next Penarth Town Mayor.

Cllr Cook, who has been the deputy town mayor for the last year, was elected to the role during a Penarth Town Council meeting.

Councillor Martin Turner, the current town mayor, nominated her for the role and said she had been an “excellent deputy” over the last year.

He added that she had also performed “exceptionally well” in the choir at the town mayor’s St David’s Day charity concert at the Paget Rooms on Saturday, February 28.

Cllr Cook’s nomination was seconded by Cllr Mark Wilson, with Cllr Michael Cuddy also nominated for deputy town mayor by Cllr Wilson.

There were no other nominations for either mayor or deputy mayor.

During the meeting councillors also agreed on the mayoral allowances for 2015/2016.

It was agreed that the town mayor’s allowances for the year would be £3,200 to cover the expenses of the office, with an additional amount of £2,500 to be available from the Civic Account for the municipal year to meet all expenses of a civic/ceremonial nature . All expenses occurred by the deputy town mayor carrying out duties on behalf of the town mayor will continue to be a matter between the holders of both offices.

Cllr Cook will start her civic duties from May this year.
