STANWELL School have been busy taking part in The Big Pedal, supporting Fairtrade fortnight and have been preparing for their Spring Concert.

Students enjoyed free fruit smoothies when they took part in The Big Pedal. Students who have biked or scooted to school were able to collect a token for a free fruit smoothie.

Sustrans Cymru provided a smoothie maker which fitted to a standard bike and pupils were able to select their fruits before pedalling to create their drink.

Members of Eco Stanwell spent Fairtrade Fortnight supporting producers of Fairtrade goods from poorer countries of the world, which was the theme for 2015.

Committee members spent break time running a stall for pupils to purchase Fairtrade products.

The event was a huge success and the promotion and message of Fairtrade was shared by all.

The Music department spent weeks preparing for the Spring Concert  which took place on March 11 in the school auditorium.

The event showcased the talents of hundreds of pupils, featuring performances from junior and senior instrumental ensembles and vocal groups.

Year 7 performed a spectacular medley of Queen songs during the show.

Stanwell School wish to send their thoughts to all those affected by the tragedy in Brecon and to the families of those injured and killed in the fatal road crash on March 6. Three teenagers from Barry, Alesha O'Connor, Rhodri Miller and Corey Price, along with grandmother Margaret Challis, 68, of Merthyr, died in the crash.

The school put in support measures to help students distressed by the loss of friends in the community.
