STANWELL School has had a busy week during March 16-20 with BBC School reporters, UKMT Kangaroo Round and more.

The school wish to congratulate Niamh Sultana of Year 7 who has been selected for the Wales Under-14 basketball squad at the age of 11.

Budding journalists from the school joined in with a national BBC campaign to encourage students to take part in news reporting activities. You can see their report at stanwell.org/school/bbc-school-report, which links up to the BBC news report page. Students involved had great fun and enjoyed the experience.

There were 13 pupils from Years 9-11 who took part in the UKMT Kangaroo round. These pupils had done extremely well in the intermediate challenge earlier this year and had progressed to this stage. The school look forward to seeing how they did.

On Monday, March 16, 11 pupils from Year 12 presented solutions to their Education in Engineering Scheme projects at the ‘Big Bang Fair – South Wales’ at the Celtic Manor.

The teams have been working with RWE, nPower and Lion Laboratories on problems currently being dealt with at the companies.

The Welsh Blood Service arrived during the week and opened a blood donation clinic. Stanwell is the first school to ever hold a clinic.

An impressive 100 units of blood were collected from pupils and staff. The school will continue to promote the importance of blood donation and try to create a network of young blood donors who commit to giving regularly.

Over 200 pupils auditioned for principal roles in their upcoming production of The Lion King Jnr and the standard of performances was very high.

Following deliberations, Hannah Shaw, Year 8 and George Jones, Year 9, were given the roles of younger and older Simba while Kaitlin, Year 9, and Emily McConnan, Year 9, have been cast as younger and older Nala.

Rehearsals will now begin or the production to start on Monday, June 29 to Wednesday, July 1. Follow @Music2XL for further updates.
