A GROUP of fundraisers are asking budding bakers to make Easter cakes to raise funds for their appeal.

Friends Ceri-Anne Wilkins, 31, from Sully, and Jackie Strawbridge, 30, from Penarth, hope to raise £10,000 for Llandough Hospital’s All Wales Adult Cystic Fibrosis Centre by the end of the year.

They are asking local residents to don their pinnies and get their bake on this Easter and help raise funds for the charity appeal.

The pair were inspired by friend, Beth Clarke, 33, who was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis (CF) at 20 months old, and spends time at the centre which provides care for those living with the life-long disease.

Mrs Clarke said: “We hope that people will get involved by baking Easter cakes to sell to their family, friends and colleagues while raising money for a good cause.

“We can't wait to see people's creations and every pound donated counts and will help us reach our target.”

The fundraisers, who call themselves Bertha’s Army, have already held a successful quiz night that raised £336.19 in February.

On May 23, Miss Wilkins and Mrs Strawbridge, 30, will be completing the London to Brighton challenge to raise further funds for the appeal- this will see the pair covering 100km in just 24 hour.

Mrs Clarke, who lives in Cardiff with her husband Lyndon, explained that Llandough Hospital houses the only adult Cystic Fibrosis centre in Wales that will care for over 350 patients from across Wales this year.

She said: “Throughout 2015, we hope to raise £10,000 for the Better Life Appeal, which aims to raise £1.3m to renovate a floor within the CF centre.

“Patients currently have to share a bathroom, the only CF ward to do so in the UK, which puts us at risk of cross infection. The renovation will create separate bathrooms and will increase the number of beds from seven to 16.”

She explained that the centre is vital for CF patients who suffer with lung and digestion problems as there is a specialist gym, physiotherapists on hand as are specialised CF care team.
