BROCKHILL WAY Community Centre has been saved after enough volunteers came forward to fill committee positions.

In August last year the community centre launched a desperate plea in the Penarth Times for volunteers to come forward to help run it.

They warned that unless volunteers came forward to fill key roles, including chairman, treasurer and secretary, they would struggle to fulfil its role as a registered charity. If enough volunteers didn't come forward it would have been forced to close down, and local clubs and classes would have been without a base in the Lower Penarth are.

Maggie Price, of the Lower Penarth Community Association, said the appeal had been a huge success and they were now looking forward to the future.

"The LPCA now has a new and dedicated committee which is looking forward to building on all the good work of the past 22 years," she said.

"Whilst the centre is used a lot by a variety groups covering youth activities like Rainbows and Brownies to exercise classes for the young and not-so-young, there are still daytime hourly slots available for hire on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

"There is a large hall available for bigger groups and a small committee room comfortably seating eight to 10 people.

"So if you need space for your activity, from book clubs to slimming clubs, drop an email to sec.lpca@gmail.com or ring 07724632300 and leave a message."
