THE Penarth and District Lesotho Trust have been quite overwhelmed by the generosity of people who have donated Duplo and Lego to be sent out to children in Lesotho in Southern Africa.

Thousands of pieces of Duplo and tens of thousands of pieces of Lego have been collected and donated to Stanwell Road Baptist Church where it has been sorted, washed, dried and stored.

Saturday mornings have seen a team of helpers busy separating the whole variety of pieces donated. They are so grateful to the schools which have enthusiastically embraced this project and encouraged their pupils to share some of their Lego with children in Africa whose toys are bottle tops and bits of wire.

Not only will Duplo and Lego be a fun toy for children to play with but it will also be a valuable classroom resource for teachers to use to help deliver the syllabus.

It’s not only children who have given but also parents and grandparents where Lego has been enjoyed by their families for generations. Indeed, some of the Lego received is 50 years old and still as good as the day it was made.

There are plans to transport the blocks to Lesotho in the autumn and the trustees are delighted that all those who have been collecting have agreed to extend the donating period to the end of May. So there is still an opportunity to give and the more that can be collected, the greater number of schools that they can supply and the more children there will be who will enjoy the fun of Lego.

So, please, continue to LEGO YOUR LEGO!
