GRIFFIN Books, Penarth's independent bookshop, has hosted two very successful author events on the gallery of All Saints Church.

On Friday, March 13, former Stranglers frontman Hugh Cornwell attracted an audience of around 60 people from all across the region to hear about his latest novel 'Arnold Drive'.

The book centres on a vicar evicted from his parish and faced with a number of moral dilemmas as he navigates the unfamiliar territory of the outside world. As this event coincided with Red Nose Day, Griffin Books donated half of the proceeds to Comic Relief, which amounted to £90.

On Thursday, April 9, former MP and leading political thinker and writer Professor David Marquand talked to an appreciative audience about his book 'Mammon's Kingdom: An Essay on Britain, Now'.

The book was recently nominated for the Orwell prize for political writing. David was interviewed by eminent Penarthian Hywel Ceri Davies, late of the European Commission, and Penarth's Labour party candidate Stephen Doughty provided an introduction.

Green Party candidate Anthony Slaughter and Police and Crime Commissioner Alun Michael, Penarth's previous MP, were also in attendance.
