A VOLUNTEER care worker at George Thomas hospice has retired after 20 years service.

Gwyneth Jones was thanked for her constant support throughout the years.

She was not only a key part of the team at the shop but was also often out and about fundraising for GTHC.

A leaving party was recently held at The Pilot pub in Penarth where fellow shop volunteers came to show their gratitude. Gwynett has seen GTHC grow during her time there and helped organise a wide range of events such as car boot sales, fairs and the upcoming onesie walk.

Volunteers are also expected to perform a number of roles including running social media, administration and gardening.

GTHC is the major provider of specialist palliative care to those suffering from cancer and other life-threatening illnesses in Cardiff.

Head of Income Generation at GTHC, Suzanne Cass, said: “We are extremely lucky with our volunteers at George Thomas Hospice Care. They all show excellent skill, dedication and wonderful personalities.

"Gwyneth is such a popular volunteer not just with the rest of the volunteers and staff but also with the customers. All of us at George Thomas Hospice would like to thank Gwyneth for her marvellous contribution and we wish her all the best of luck in her retirement.”

The charity has to raise more than £1.3 million each year to fund its core services which is raised through their charity shops and wide ranging fundraising events and activities.

Gwyneth leaves some big shoes to fill but the hospice are open to welcome volunteers who can either pop into the shop for an info pack or contact Sarah on 02920524150 or email sarah.jackson@gthc.org.uk.
