THE response of the people of Penarth was again most heart-warming as they supported a plant and craft sale for the Penarth and District Lesotho Trust (PADLT).

Firstly on the Friday evening preparations were made in the hall of Stanwell Road Baptist Church with delivery of plants and craft items for the sale. Then again on Saturday when contributions were brought from 8am onwards from people unknown to the trustees who came and deposited their plants on the wall or on the grass with such generosity only receiving a verbal thank you and a wave of acknowledgement.

The tables and trestles were filled with produce and despite the doubtful weather conditions - with a sharp shower at the beginning - the people of Penarth came and bought the plants which as always were very reasonable - as someone said “the best bargains for plants in Penarth”.

The tables slowly emptied on the lawns while inside the indoor plants also disappeared quickly. The crafts available always fill those who come with delight with the amazing creativity and beauty of the displays around the hall and many beautiful purchases were made.

Suki Flynn and Mary Anne Marsden, trustees of PADLT, were the main organisers of the event with supporting roles from present and past trustees and friends and they would wish to thank all who came and gave with a special mention for Style Gardens, Wenvoe and B&Q which donated £15 of plants.

PADLT wishes to thank the people of Penarth for their support of the work that this charity succeeds in doing for the children in Teyateyaneng in Lesotho.

The treasurer, Dil Samuel, was able to report that more than £1,141 was raised and PADLT ensures about 98 per cent of this will go to Lesotho. The next event in the PADLT programme is the Fun Run, a charity jog of approximately 5km around Cosmeston Country Park on Saturday, June 6, at 11am, with sponsor forms available from the churches or from howellskeith@yahoo.co.uk
