FOUR main libraries in the Vale of Glamorgan will see their opening hours changed.

Penarth, Barry, Cowbridge and Llantwit Major libraries will introduce their new times from Monday, June 1.

The changes follow consultation with residents and library users at the end of last year.

This showed that people wanted them to be open for six days a week with no lunch closures and late evening sessions at all libraries.

The late evening sessions will see the four stay open until 7pm on one day a week.

Penarth, along with Cowbridge and Llantwit Major will be open between 10am-5pm on weekdays and until 4pm on Saturdays.

The late evening session will be held on Thursdays at Penarth, Wednesday at Cowbridge and Thursday at Llantwit Major.

Opening hours at Dinas Powys, Sully, Rhoose, St Athan and Wenvoe libraries will remain the same for now.

The Vale council say the new hours will give users the same opportunity to make use of the valuable service, whilst also enabling the library service to meet savings targets.

They say these changes will enable them to continue to provide one of the most popular services in the Vale.
