ON Thursday, June 11, Penarth Sea Cadets, TS Glamorgan, held their annual ceremony to remember the 13 sailors of HMS Glamorgan who were killed in action and buried at sea during the Falkland’s conflict.

The attack on HMS Glamorgan took place on June 12, 1982, so the ceremony is held on the nearest parade night to the date.

Cllr Rosemary Cook, mayor of Penarth, spoke to some of the cadets after the ceremony. Also present at the ceremony were Dr Heather Stevens, high sheriff of South Glamorgan and her consort David Stevens, Cdr Neil Pugh the CO of HMS Cambria, two URNU midshipmen and their training officer, Stuart Jones the manager of Quay Marinas Penarth, David Hayden of Harris Pye Engineering and friends and family of the Cadets.

Penarth Sea Cadets is open to boys and girls aged 10-18 years old. Parade evenings are held on Tuesdays and Thursday from 7-9pm. During the summer months boating activities are run in Penarth Marina.
