SULLY Painting Group held their annual exhibition on June 19-21 in the Jubilee Hall Sully.

Despite the big events on in Barry and Penarth they had a steady stream of visitors throughout the weekend. The sun didn’t shine as much as it usually does but at least there was no rain.

Visitors commented on the wide range of subjects and techniques on show and on the high standard of the resultant pictures, which, according to some, was higher than ever this year.

A difficult but interesting task for the visitors was to vote for their favourite picture from the almost 250 exhibits on show. An indication of how hard this was is shown by a tie for first place in the results, with Ken Wade’s 'Becalmed' and Jan Parson’s 'Little Lady in Mobcap' sharing that honour.

Ken had two paintings 'Robin Knox Johnson' and 'Yawning' in the next two places, but the votes were closely spread over the entire group, a further indication of the difficulty of choosing the best picture.

The exhibition is held not only to show the work that the group does, but also to raise money for charity, this year for Ty Hafan and the Teenage Cancer Trust.

A cheque will be presented to each of these charities later in the year.

The group thank everyone who came to their exhibition and hope to see them all again next year.
