MEMBERS and friends of the Salvation Army in Penarth came together to bid farewell to their leaders Steve and Dani Mayo.

Six years ago, Steve and Dani - along with their three daughters - left their appointment in Newport to take up leadership of the Salvation Army in Penarth.

During their time in the town they have built many strong connections and have been actively involved in the local community.

Part of the Army’s work in the town is to hold a Luncheon Club on a Wednesday and a Parent and Toddler Club on a Thursday and it is through these activities that Steve and Dani have been able to come alongside people and help build on existing relationships as well as form new friendships.

Many of the members of these clubs, from the youngest to the most senior, have said how they will be really missed when they leave.

Their ministry in Penarth has been widespread and varied involving supporting families of the bereaved, working with homeless and disadvantaged people and visiting local school assemblies.

Originally from Poole in Dorset, Steve and Dani entered full-time ministry in 2000 and, after two years' training, have spent the last 13 years working as Salvation Army ministers in Wales.

During the two services held, friends were able to say thank you and pay tribute to the work that Steve and Dani have done in the community over the last six years and pray God’s blessing on them as they take up their new appointment next month in Romford, Essex.

On receiving many gifts, cards and flowers, both Steve and Dani said they have enjoyed their time in Penarth and made many friends, although sad to be leaving, they are also looking forward to the new challenges that lie ahead.

The new Commanding Officers, Andrew and Lorraine Warriner, will be joining from Merthyr to take up their appointment on July 19.

Services are held each Sunday at the Salvation Army in Plassey Street at 10am and 5pm and anyone who is looking to attend a place of worship is welcome to attend.
