RUGBY star Leigh Halfpenny enjoyed an afternoon with children and families at T? Hafan – the hospice for children in Wales – when he stopped by for a visit on Thursday, July 16.

An ambassador for the charity, Leigh spent time with all the children and got involved with a sports activity where he hula hooped, knocked down some skittles and even enjoyed a mini water fight.

He also picked the charity’s summer raffle winners and filmed a short clip wishing T? Hafan’s Rainbow Runners luck for its colourful fundraising event in Aberdare.

One of the families which enjoyed his company was Callum Sainsbury, his mum, Amie, and dad, Paul, from Brynmawr.

Amie said: “Callum wore his Wales top especially and gave him a WRU pin badge as a present. Leigh was fantastic with all the families and even spoke to my cousin over the phone to wish her a happy birthday and signed a card for her which she was delighted with.”

Three-year-old Callum suffers from Ohtahara syndrome – a rare epilepsy condition – and was referred to T? Hafan in 2013.

Amie added: “Leigh is a brilliant ambassador for T? Hafan and it meant so much that we were able to meet him. He is such an amazing person and his girlfriend was really nice as well. Their visit really made everyone’s day.”

Leigh Halfpenny has been an ambassador for Ty Hafan since November 2013 and supports the charity’s work, including organising a charity raffle – giving fans the chance to win some of his rugby items – on his website www.leighhalfpenny.com
