THE Welsh Government Warm Homes Nest scheme is encouraging householders to improve their home over summer to benefit from lower energy bills.

Lee Parry, head of Nest, said, “A lot of people who struggle to heat their homes may not realise the difference that a few changes could make – draught proofing can save up to £35 a year on heating bills and insulating a loft can save up to £145 each year.

“Reducing the amount of energy we use by turning appliances off standby, replacing light bulbs with energy efficient alternatives and reducing showering time can also save a family of four up to £180 a year.”

The Nest scheme offers a wide range of support to help people struggling to heat their homes and are worried about energy bills.

In addition to advice from Nest, people who live in a home that is hard to heat and receive a means tested benefit may be eligible for free home improvements.
