A COUNCILLOR who campaigned for action to be taken to address speeding is urging people to respond to a consultation on the introduction of a permanent 20mph speed limit in Llandough.

Following a campaign organised by residents and a subsequent public consultation in 2013, the Vale of Glamorgan Council introduced a trial reduced speed limit on Penlan Road.

The impact of the measure is to be monitored during a six month trial period and one of the key factors in determining whether the speed limit is reduced permanently will be the feedback received from local residents.

Llandough’s local councillor, Cllr Kate Edmunds, this week invited the council’s cabinet member for regeneration, Cllr Lis Burnett, to the village to see the impact of the trial first hand and is now urging all of those with a view on the scheme to make their views known.

Cllr Edmunds said: “Road safety is an issue of huge importance in Llandough. I believe there could be great benefits to making the reduction of the speed limit to a 20mph speed a permanent one.

"I know that the speed of traffic in Llandough has long been a concern to residents and I would urge everyone with a view on the issue to feed their comments back to the Council as part of the consultation.”

The current trial, which started on Monday, August 3, introduced new road signs and road markings to make drivers aware of the reduced speed limit.

Cllr Burnett added: "This is all about finding solutions for local people so we would encourage people to try it out and see what they think. We will then work with them to find the best ways to proceed."

Comments and feedback can be provided at any time during the trial period.

Responses can be made by writing to Llandough 20mph Consultation, Vale of Glamorgan Council, Civic Offices, Holton Road, Barry, CF63 4RU, or via email to visible@valeofglamorgan.gov.uk.

All feedback must include ‘Penlan Road’ in the title, and include a full name and postal address.

Alternatively responses can be submitted by calling Contact One Vale on 01446 700111, or by texting C1V and then your message to 60066.

The consultation will close on Friday, January 29, 2016.
