Managing director of Cardiff Bus, Cynthia Ogbonna said: “We attended a meeting mediated by ACAS on Tuesday, September 1 as a final attempt to stop the strike action but unfortunately the situation was not resolved.

“It’s really disappointing that some of our staff don’t think a 5 per cent pay rise over two years or amended to 3 per cent for one year is enough. We believe we have made an excellent offer, which was accepted by our Unison members in July, but Unite has held out for more money, which we simply do not have.

“We would like to apologise to all of our customers for the disruption caused by the strike. We are doing our upmost to minimise the inconvenience that this will cause our customers.

“We have put together a timetable of services that will be running, which is available on our website, social media channels and by calling our customer helpline.

“We will continue to keep the channels of communication with our Union partners open in the hope that this disruption will be resolved as soon as possible.”
