YOU reported in your paper of July 30 on the popular campaign to save the beautiful Chestnut Tree in Augusta Road.

A petition of objection and enquiry was sent to the council. A big thank you to the many people (53 to date) who have signed the petition pinned to the tree.

Readers may like to know the council's response is that a report (as yet undisclosed) says "the tree is not worth retaining". This leaves important questions unanswered.

I imagine many will agree that urban trees have considerable 'worth' to our well-being and to the environment. I await more information.
