A SUCCESSFUL garden party was recently held in which all in attendance experienced a "happy time" despite the bad weather.

Penarth and District Lesotho Trust held the party at All Saints Lesser Hall as there was poor weather forecast for the afternoon of Sunday, August 30.

The decision was made early in the day and the very large number who packed into the hall testified that everyone did find their way to the alternative venue.

The PADLT Youth who had organised the event quickly transferred their efforts to the hall. Teas and coffees flowed and the display of cakes and sandwiches was almost too pretty to disturb.

The Youth group had done a great job and as the afternoon progressed those present were entertained with solos on piano and in song performed by talented young people.

The chairman Lesley Cox received a cheque for £873 from Keith Howells, the organiser of the annual Penarth Cytûn Fun Run which had taken place earlier this summer.

The participants had gathered their sponsor money to produce this worthwhile total with £525 being “gift aided”.

Certificates were also presented to some of the participants who were present. Mrs Cox thanked PADLT Youth for their efforts and for the entertainment. A video and photographs were shown of the previous visit made by the PADLT Youth in 2014. Libby Dwyer who went on that visit will lead the next trip in 2016 thus continuing their tradition of biennial visits to Lesotho.

Godfrey Kakande was remembered by all who attended but especially by those who had visited Lesotho and had seen the TY Junior Academy.

A spokesman from PADLT said: "It is still difficult to comprehend that this amazing man is no longer with us. His life was so sadly cut short as a result of the injuries he received in a car crash last Christmas."

The memorial service for Godfrey Kakande will be held in All Saints Church on Thursday, September 17, at 7pm.
