A MUSIC club recently celebrated its first anniversary with a packed out event.

Penarth Soul Club hosted a night at Penarth Ex-Servicemen's Club.

Shelley Norton and Liam Curtin came up with the idea of the Soul Club after Liam was the DJ at Shelley's 40th birthday last year.

They realised they shared a love of many types of music including Soul and especially Motown and Northern Soul.

Liam and Shelley said: "Our first year has been incredible and Penarth Soul Club has played at many other venues including Chapter, Wales Millennium Centre, gigs in London, Picnic Penarth and different clubs around Cardiff.

"We love our music and there's nothing like the buzz of seeing so many people dancing all night to tunes that they love too. People travel from all over the UK and we're so grateful to everyone who has supported us over the past year. "

The club has their Christmas party soul night on Saturday, December 12 at the Ex-Servicemen's and tickets are just £3. They will be on sale via their facebook page and at the club nearer the time.

The club would also like to thank Simon Rhys-Phillips for the thousands of photographs he has taken which can be seen on facebook - just look for Penarth Soul Club and 'like' the page.

The pair added: "We are looking forward to our second year of Penarth Soul Club and more fantastic dance nights."
