TWO close friends are set to run the Cardiff Half marathon for a charity in memory of a popular Vale boy.

Emma Shumack and Sian Richards from Penarth will be taking on the challenge to raise funds for 2 Wish upon a Star as a tribute to Conner Marshall who was tragically murdered earlier this year.

Both Emma and Sian are close friends of Conner's mother Nadine Marshall and the charity were extremely supportive of the family and friends when they needed them most.

Having already completed the Cardiff 10K on Sunday, September 6, the pair have been training with their regular before and after work runs.

Emma said: "Preparations have been going well. We are just doing our normal runs. The 10k was the furthest we've ever run and when we saw that they were putting on an extra 500 places for the half marathon we thought we would give it a go."

We want to raise awareness and as much money as possible for the cause. We don't care about times. We just want to finish the race and do our best for Conner."

The just giving total currently stands at over £400 but with cash donations, the actual amount stands at closer to £1000.

Nadine, praised the Emma and Sian for their "outstanding efforts" in memory of Conner for the charity and said she was very proud of them both.

A charity night will be held at Penarth conservative club on Friday, October 9 entitled Conner's Beard Bash.

A number of incredible prizes have been donated for the night's raffle including a signed Ospreys rugby shirt as well as signed footballs and rugby balls.

Conner's friends's band Lost in Chemistry will perform a live music set on the evening.

Award winning comedian Col Howarth, has very kindly offered to be compere for the night and will perform a stand up comedy routine. Emma and Nadine are very grateful for his contribution.
