RUNNING brothers from Penarth are set to undertake their latest mammoth challenge for charity.

Scott and Rhys Jenkins are running 260 miles in five days in Iceland alongside friends for Cancer Research UK and the Kidney Wales Foundation

They are currently running the Run Iceland Challenge with fellow Penarthians Lawrence Cronk, 29, and Charlotte Bloxham, 22.

The brothers have previously taken on mammoth runs including the Death Valley double and the Boston to Austin run, both in America.

They chose Cancer Research UK because each of the runners knows somebody who is affected by the disease, the endurance duo said.

The Jenkins brothers' uncle had cancer and Scott's fiancee's mum died of breast cancer last year.

Scott said: "We wanted to do something for Cancer Research because it has affected our family personally.

"We felt that Iceland would be the perfect place to do our latest challenge. It is the total opposite of our Death Valley challenge."

The group are also raising money for the Kidney Foundation which Miss Bloxham has family links to.

Mr Cronk is a fitness manager and endurance coach at Enduraprep in Cardiff and devised the training plan for the runners for the Run Iceland challenge.

He represents GB as an age group athlete in the European and world triathlon championships and has done since 2014.

The furthest distance Miss Bloxham has run prior to this challenge is 18 miles, at the start of April this year.

Speaking yesterday- whilst coping with cold, strong winds and heavy rain for almost half a day - Scott said they were making good progress.

He added: "We are due to finish on Friday and so far the biggest challenges are definitely the elements and the distance."

Temperatures in the region can be around four degrees with strong head winds and ice to contend with.

Scott and Rhys's dad, Terry Jenkins is the solo support crew, driving and feeding the runners to keep them fuelled over the gruelling five days.
