A COUPLE from Penarth will not only be celebrating the Queen's 90th birthday today - but also each others.

In a weird coincidence, Hugh Currell and his partner Isabelle Crabtree both share the same birthday - April 21 - which today, also marks Queen Elizabeth's 90th birthday.

As people all over Penarth, the UK and the world toast Her Majesty's birthday Mr Currell and Miss Crabtree will be celebrating their 26th and 25th birthdays respectively.

The pair, who live in Plassey Square with their four-year-old daughter Millie, met at University in Liverpool and discovered they shared the same birthday even before their first date.

Former Stanwell school pupil Miss Crabtree said: "When we first became friends on Facebook I realised we had the same birthday. It was cool and different, I thought it was a good sign and I was right.

"It was definitely a bit weird and I'll always have to share it with him, so we always have to find something we both want to do. "Sometimes I think it's fate, it's kept us together for this long."

Mr Currell, who works for ActiveQuote in Cardiff Bay, added: "She believes in that kind of stuff more than I do but it was a good talking point.

"With it being the Queen's birthday too it only seems to make a difference on landmark birthdays. We are having a big party in the office to celebrate the Queen's birthday so I will be having a party in the office, it just won't be for me."

Miss Crabtree, who now works as a dental nurse in Newport, said about sharing her birthday with the Queen: "It's just a shame it isn't a national holiday. It's fun to share a birthday with someone as famous as the Queen and we may have a small drink and toast to her and ourselves."

When asked about her opinion on the royal family, Miss Crabtree said: "They seem kind and they know how to throw a good party. "Who knows, maybe the Queen should invite everyone who shares her birthday round for cake."
