A CHOIR which aims to help people with dementia is holding a taster session in Penarth.

Forget Me Not Chorus is a Vale of Glamorgan based charity which aims to support people with the condition and their carers through weekly singing sessions.

They will be holding the taster session at the Paget Rooms on Saturday, April 30 at 2.30pm.

The sessions come in the lead up to new rehearsals for people in the Penarth and Vale areas which begin every Thursday from May 12 between 7-9pm at Ysgol y Deri on Sully Road.

The charity was chosen by Penarth town mayor, cllr Rosemary Cook as one her two supported charities for her year in office.

Those who join could get the chance to perform in the 'Festival of Voice' on June 4 where the four individual Forget Me Not choirs from across the region will come together to perform alongside the Welsh National Opera's community choir at the Wales Millennium Centre.

Director Kate Woolveridge, won ITV's 'Inspirational Women of the Year' award in 2012

She said: "I believe passionately in the power of music as therapy.

"Research shows that while people with Dementia won't always remember singing, the feel-good factor they get from it and the emotion they feel stays with them afterwards."
