TRIBUTES have been paid to a long serving community councillor who has died at the age of 71.

Family, friends and work colleagues have paid their final respects to John Huish who served on Llandough Community Council for well over a decade, including a stint as chairman.

Councillor Kate Edmunds who represents Llandough on the Vale council said: "John was a real man of the people whose main objective in life was to work in support of others for no personal gain or reward other than the satisfaction that he had helped them to lead a more productive and enjoyable life.

"John will be long remembered for all that he achieved in his life for the community which he loved and he will be sadly missed by his family and all of those who knew him as a man who always put others before himself."

Mr Huish was a member of the school governing body for Llandough Primary School for a similar length of time.

He was also an active member of the Royal British Legion Club and branch, serving for many years as chairman.

He held the role of standard bearer with pride when representing the Royal British Legion at the annual civic service, where his involvement was said to have "added greatly" to the importance of commemorating the installation of the chairman of the community council.

And, he helped run a transport service for over ten years, taking the elderly and disabled on a weekly trip to the local supermarkets.

Along with Clive Carreyett, he provided a service that was "much appreciated" by all those who used it.

His legacy lives on as another local resident now provides this much needed facility.
