Extracts from the Penarth Times of April 29, 1966:

The latest figures published by the Rating and Valuation Association indicate an average national rise in rate poundages of 11.8 per cent, against which Penarth's poundage increased by less than eight per cent.

An "outstanding entry" by Penarth Townswomen's Guild in the Drama Festival of one act plays in Cardiff at the weekend won them the cup from 13 entries in the Cardiff and East Glamorgan Federation.

The Darby and Joan Club held a jumble sale at their meeting at the Paget Rooms on Tuesday. During the afternoon, the Club ladies choir gave a concert based on songs about the moon.

On Monday 1148 (Penarth) Squadron ATC were visited by an RAF film unit which entertained the cadets with an interesting film show.

The three films shown were official Air Ministry films illustrating different aspects of the history of the Royal Air Force and like the the air force.

A voluntary service exhibition is to be staged at the Paget Rooms this autumn under the auspices of the Penarth Christian a Council, The exhibition, which is to be run for the Christian Council by Trinity Methodist Church will cover the two days October 19 and 20.

The Annual Dinner of the Sully Young Wives, which had to be postponed on short notice because of the recent blizzard was held on April 21 at Sully House, Swanbridge. Thirty-two members were present, and enjoyed a wonderful evening together.

Sully Ladies Bowling Club, had their official Opening Day on Thursday of last week. The day was fine, with hardly any wind, and under normal conditions, would have been a good day for bowling.

But the groundsman regretfully put a ban on the Green being used, as it was much too wet after the deep snow of the previous week.

Penarth RFC will, as usual, be competing in this year's Seven-a-side tournament at Cardiff Arms Park. Although the club's record has not been impressive I late years, their Sevens' side has always proved a force to be reckoned with.
