BUDDING adventurers are invited to hear about a trek in Sri Lanka which will raise funds for the Marie Curie Hospice in Penarth.

Marie Curie will be hosting an information session at Mint and Mustard restaurant on Windsor Terrace on Thursday, May 19 to give prospective trekkers the opportunity to learn more about next year’s fundraising quest.

A group of volunteers recently raised more than £100,000 with a charity trek across Costa Rica for the same cause.

And now the charity is looking for its next batch of willing walkers to take on a similar challenge.

Running between Thursday, November 16 and Saturday, November 25, 2017, the Sri Lanka trek will take in jungles, forest trails, small villages and ancient cities over 10 days spent exploring the island.

Funds raised by the trekkers will support the work of the Marie Curie Hospice for Cardiff and the Vale which is located on Bridgeman Road.

Last year the hospice supported more than 1,000 patients living with a terminal illness, along with their family and loved ones, at a cost of £4.6 million.

Georgina Burke, Community Fundraiser for the Marie Curie Hospice, said: "Our treks are always very popular, whether it’s with people looking to take on a new challenge in a beautiful country with stunning landscapes, or those whose family has been cared for at the hospice and want to give something back.

"We hope the Sri Lanka trek will be one of the best treks yet – offering all those taking part the adventure of a lifetime while raising money for an important local cause."

The event will start at 6.30pm where prospective runners can speak to Marie Curie's trek team.
