PICTURE the scenario, you’re caught in possession of cannabis and dealing drugs.

You’re approached by a police officer, you then attempt to escape by doing “a runner” and when caught said to the officer, “I will hit you with a rock if you come any any closer”.

You then throw punches at the officer resulting in the officer discharging his CS gas at that point punch the officer in the face and several times to the officer’s body before finally being handcuffed.

You initially deny dealing in drugs but later admit to dealing saying you were paying off a debt to another drug dealer.

You refuse to give the name of the so-called drug dealer.

You finally end up in Crown Court and plead guilty to the charges.

What sentence would you expect to receive for committing these serious offences?

Two to four years in prison?

This is not a scenario, it’s for real. Kai Blackmore, 21, of Hayes Road, Sully (Penarth Times April 28). Blackmore received an eight-month prison sentence, suspended for 12 months.

He was ordered to carry out 200 hours’ unpaid work and pay the officer £250 compensation.

British justice is crumbling before your very eyes.

I don’t blame the judge, he’s under strict guidelines only to imprison people as a last resort. The criminals of the world know this and until we start imposing deterrent sentences they will continue to assault police officers, deal in drugs and carry on assaulting victims, etc.

I suspect the only thing that has really hurt Mr Blackmore was the shame he has imposed on himself, his family and employers.

Well done to the Penarth Times for publicising this incident.
