A RESHUFFLE of the Vale council's cabinet has seen the number of posts reduced to five, with two councillors leaving their posts and a new deputy leader being installed.

It comes after councillor Chris Elmore was elected as the MP for Ogmore.

He subsequently stepped down from his role as member for children's services.

Councillor Stuart Egan also relinquished his responsibilities for adult services and his role as deputy leader of the council to become the Vale Mayor for 2016/17.

The new deputy leader is Penarth councillor Lis Burnett.

Members' portfolios have been changed to accommodate, with just one new member, councillor Peter King, introduced to the decision-making executive.

Speaking at meeting of the cabinet last week council leader Neil Moore said: “I’ve reduced the number of cabinet members to five. It’s a big ask. It’s a big responsibility, but I know they are all up for it.”

Cllr Moore will resume his position as council leader and cabinet member for resources and inward investment .

Cllr Burnett is now the cabinet member for regeneration and education, as well as being the new deputy leader.

Cllr Bronwen Brooks becomes cabinet member for housing, and social care and health.

And, cllr King, of the Cornerswell ward, is now responsible for building services, highways and transportation.

Additional roles mean that cllr Moore is also chairman of the equalities consultative forum, and senior management appointment committee. He also sits on the planning committee.

Cllr Burnett will also act as chairwoman of the appointment of local authority governors advisory panel, is on the equalities consultative forum, and is on the planning committee.
