A SULLY dad has completed seven half marathons in seven days to support the family next-door.

Steve Lias, of South Road, Sully, donned his running shoes recently to complete the feat in an effort to keep the Isherwood family together, as their teenage daughter Mary embarks on proton beam radiotherapy in the USA for three months this summer.

The 13-year-old was diagnosed with a craniopharyngioma in March 2014.

So far more than £14,000 has been raised to support mum Hannah, dad Mark, and sisters Annie and Josie, in accompanying her as she undergoes her treatment.

Mr Lias, 43, whose previous form includes four marathons and seven half marathons, has raised £3,035.

Mr Lias, a construction recruitment business manager, said: “Mary is my next door neighbour and we have known her since 2006

“Mary is a very close friend to us all and especially Sophie - my daughter.

"They want to try and keep the family together as much as feasibly possible in the USA while Mary has her proton beam therapy, I wanted to help out.

“I came up with the idea three weeks ago and completed seven half marathons in seven days a week later.”

The best bits were completing 92 miles in a week and knowing you are helping the family.

"The bad bits, were bad knees, sore feet and aching calves.

He added: “Mary is a brave and courageous teenager that battles on, and is always in good spirits.

"To raise money for her was worth every ache and pain in my body.”
