PRIMARY school pupils in Penarth are putting on a performance entirely by themselves to raise money for their school.

The children from year five at Evenlode Primary School will be taking charge of aspects such as ticket sales and promotion of the "Storm in a Teacup" puppet performance which takes place on Thursday, July 7.

They had a visit from the Arts Council for Wales as part of the night out project which was organised by school governor, Ceri Lambert.

The subject of the talk was to get the children interested in producing a professional theatre show at their school.

The project aims to bring performances to communities through volunteer groups with the help of local authorities.

One of the pupils involved said that their task had involved making posters to promote the event and designing the box office itself.

There will also be a raffle held on the evening.

He said: "We've all really enjoyed it so far. It has been hard work but fun. At the moment we are working on selling tickets and collecting raffle prizes."

The play involves a lighthouse keeper who's friend comes over for a spot of tea but, during a large storm, the lighthouse keeper has to try to save him.

Head teacher, Steve Rees said: "The children have really enjoyed working on this.

"They have had to do everything themselves, from the box office to promotion and even providing the refreshments.

"We would like to thank local companies who have been really generous in contributing raffle prizes."

Tickets are £5 for adults, £4 for concessions and £3.50 for children.

Doors open at 5.30pm for a 6.30pm start.
