Extracts from the Penarth Times of July 1, 1966:

Two 18-year-old Police Cadets who have qualified for the Duke of Edinburgh's Gold Award will receive their certificates from Prince Philip himself at Buckingham Palace on July 11.

Last Friday the pupils of Cogan Annexe of Penarth Secondary School went on an educational visit to Southampton Docks. They were accompanied by their headmaster and members of the staff.

A coffee morning with a difference will be taking place at St Peters Church Hall and in the church grounds on Saturday, July 2.

While mother drinks her coffee, father and the children will be able to amuse themselves at the many side shows scattered about the grounds.

Following an inaugural meeting between representative of different Christian Churches in Dinas Powis on Monday, it has been decided to form a local Christian Council to enable the various denominations to work more closely together.

Following the request in the Penarth Times a few weeks ago for suggestions of local causes to benefit from the Ditchling Art Exhibition in the autumn, the organising committee has received several interesting ideas but nothing strictly for Penarth.

The infants (under six years of age) at Sully Primary School went on an outing on Thursday last to Barry Island, and to Barry Zoo.

Thanks to the kindness of the ladies of Windsor Bowling Club and Belle Vue Bowling Club, three of the members of Sully Ladies' Club were able to travel to Llandrindod Wells on Wednesday of last week to see the international bowling matches.

Driving rain failed to damp the excellent results of the annual Sully Hospital fete last Saturday, which raised just over £700.

The organisers bravely resisted any inclination to retreat to the shelter of the hospital walls, and stalls were held as usual in marquees in the hospital grounds.
