ON FRIDAY, July 1, the Penarth Aviation Society will have the opportunity to find out about some exotic aircraft museums.

Last November society member John Andrew flew to Australia for a sight-seeing tour with his wife. Naturally, with his keen interest in all things aeronautical, this included visits to significant aircraft museums.

John tells us he started in Singapore looking at the Singapore Air Force Museum which includes two Hawker Hunter jets.

From Singapore to Melbourne and the RAAF Museum at Point Cook, home of the worlds oldest continuously working airbase (since 1914).

With stops at Moorabin (home of a Beaufighter from the Second World War), Alice Springs (home of a rare DHA Drover in the famous Flying Doctor colours), John ended up in Sydney where he was able to see one of only two Super Constellation Aircraft left from the 1950s.

The final stop on this tour was at the Australian Fleet Air Arm Museum at Nowra. It will be interesting to compare this last museum with the museum at Yeovilton.

The group will be well informed about historical Antipodean Aviation at the meetings conclusion.

The meeting will be held in the Penarth Conservative Club at 7.45pm for 8pm.

Visitors are welcome to attend for a small donation.
