AS THE “she” referred to in Eddy Williams’ letter (“Parking Will Help Save Town” – published in the Penarth Times on June 16) I should point out that I increasingly have to rely on buses to visit the pier or the prom as I no longer drive and I can’t walk as far as I used to. But when I was driving I was very aware that cars often spoil the very places their drivers have come to enjoy.

We moved to Penarth 16 years ago from Roath Park because the air had become so polluted by the traffic fumes which are increasingly spoiling our towns and cities, even to the extent that people are dying unnecessarily from bronchial and heart diseases.

We need a good public transport system, possibly paid for by a congestion charge, to both improve our quality of life and safeguard our children. Otherwise one man’s freedom to drive his car can be another person’s poison.
